Success Story

Ombudsman

Transparency and accountability are the cardinal principles underlying the implementation of the MGNREG Act, 2005. There is a need for an independent authority to expeditiously redress the grievances in regard to the implementation of MGNREGA and Scheme made there under. For this purpose, the existing administrative machinery for the disposal of grievances needs to be strengthened to secure the ends of justice, as effective grievance redressal is the key to the empowerment of the people and the enjoyment of their rights. Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 27 of NGNREG Act, the Central Government issued an Order dated 7th September, 2009 issuing directions to the State Government for establishing the office of Ombudsman in districts for redressal of grievances in a time bound manner.
